Positive Path
After his release, Stephen wasted no time and embarked on his BTEC in art. His dedication to art began while he was incarcerated, working tirelessly with his mentor, Allison Wilson, on the BTEC program. Despite the prison's failure to enroll him, Stephen remained committed to honing his skills.
Now enrolled in the BTEC program, Stephen reflects on the journey that led him here. He applied for the program while facing a charge just weeks before his release, and it was Allison and his mother who attended his interview. The determination to continue his education right after his release kept him focused on a positive path.
Stephen finds solace and purpose in his studies, currently in the second term of his program. Keeping a reflective diary has been a new experience for him, encouraging him to think more deeply about art. His art teacher, Corinna, has played a pivotal role in his growth, and he appreciates the supportive community of fellow students who share his passion.
Broad Horizons
The journey to art hasn't been without its challenges. Stephen discovered his dyslexia upon starting the course, adding an unexpected twist to his educational journey. Although the idea of university initially felt overwhelming, he now sees it as a future possibility, a testament to the doors that education can open.
Studying for the BTEC has broadened Stephen's artistic horizons. He's experimenting with different mediums, from ceramics to photography and life drawing, broadening his artistic repertoire. He's also considering branching into special effects makeup or even tattooing, showcasing the diversity of his artistic interests.

Stephen's art continues to be inspired by his past experiences, particularly the Holocaust Memorial project. He remains passionate about the project, even reaching out to the prison governor to offer assistance in taking visitors around the exhibition. His dedication to educating others about the Holocaust is unwavering.
Reflecting on his journey, Stephen acknowledges that his time in prison was a pivotal turning point.
